About Us

“So much under one roof - something for all!”

We are a community resource that strives to provide a place where people in the area find new friendships, new interests and new links within their community. Burwood Neighbourhood Community House is run by a committee of volunteers.

Volunteers are required in areas of admin, gardening, computer tutoring, support catering, or social groups. If you would like to volunteer our details can be found on the Volunteers page.

Burwood Neighbourhood House is a vital resource that connects and strengthens the community.

Our objective is to improve community strength and provide interesting and supportive activities.

We are very greatful to the City of Whitehorse who provides our venue and some of our funding. We also thank the Department of Human Services and all those who donate to us to keep our community house running.

  • Lorraine Morrissey

    PRESIDENT

  • Annie Rutter

    SECRETARY

I had to retire early due to chronic ill health, after a 25 year nursing career. Volunteering at Burwood Neighbourhood House as a committee member has been an interesting and rewarding way to participate in my local community.

Making jams and preserves to support fundraising and facilitating a weekly playgroup has also kept me active and connected. There are many other ways to be involved and I would recommend it to everyone.

  • Kirsten Scott

    ADMINISTRATION OFFICER

My name is Kirsten, I started off working at Burwood Neighbourhood House as a volunteer; that led to an admin position. You will find me at the reception desk, however if I am not there I am off leading the walking group. I am also the Secretary for our Committee.

  • Karen Nield

    ART TUTOR

After a long career in the health industry in 2011 I decided to explore my interest in more creative areas. I started with interior design but quickly decided my long term passion for visual arts. It’s very rewarding for me as an art tutor when students are able to explore and develop their own artistic style. I have a strong emphasis on drawing as a foundation for learning all art techniques and my experience in tutoring includes watercolour, oil and acrylic painting.
